Simple Blanket Tutorial

Today's tutorial is a very simple and quick Baby Blanket. You can throw this together in 30 minutes, with any fabric you like (think cotton, minkee, flannelette or polar fleece). It would make a beautiful, unique baby shower gift, particularly if you make a matching pillowcase (the tutorial for this will be posted next week!).

What you will need
  • Main Fabric
  • Backing Fabric
  • Batting (I use a cotton wool blend. Not sure what to use, see here for your options)
  • Coordinating Thread

1. Cut a 26 x 38" rectangle from both your main fabric and backing fabric.

2. Lay main fabric over the batting and cut a rectangle from your batting that is slightly larger.

3. Lay the fabrics in the following order - batting, backing fabric (right side up) and then main fabric (wrong side up).

4. Sew around the edge of the blanket, using a 1/4" seam. Leave a 2" gap to turn the blanket in the right way.

5. Trim the corners, turn in the right way and iron flat.

6. Top stitch around the edge of the blanket to close the gap.

And your done!! How easy is that.

Mix it up with different fabrics or adding binding instead of doing a self binding blanket.
