Ladies Christmas Pyjama's Tutorial

Here's one for the Ladies! Christmas pyjama's to match the men's and boy's set we posted last week! The pyjama's have 3/4 pants, with a wide waist, to ensure maximum comfort and movement. It would be easy to throw on some elastic around the leg's to create a set of harem pants, if you were in the mood!

Before you start you will need -

• 1m Christmas print fabric
• 1m plain poplin (for the lining, if desired)15 cm contrasting Christmas print
• 10cm Ribbing
• co-ordinating thread
• 2" elastic

1. Using the template found here, cut out the desired template size and applique shape.

2. Fold your chosen fabric in half lengthwise. Place Panel A from the template along the fold line, where indicated. Pin to the fabric and cut.

3. Repeat with the fabric chosen for the lining.

4. Cut two 10 x 15 cm panels from your contrasting fabric. Fold one of the short edges over by 1.5" and sew in place using a decorative stitch. Fold the remaining edges by 1/4" and iron flat. 

5. Place one piece of lining against the wrong side of one piece of Panel A’s fabric and pin together. Repeat for the other piece of lining and Panel A.

6. Position the pockets in the middle of right side of Panel A (The lower the panels are positioned on the panel, the lower the pockets will be on the pants). Once happy with the position, pin in place and then sew down the three sides with the folded edges. Repeat with the other pocket.

7. Create hems on the legs of the pants by folding the bottom edge of Panel A (including the lining) by 1/4", iron, fold another 1/2" and then sew in place. Repeat with the other panel. 

8. Join the panels by placing them, right sides together, and sewing along edge 1 and 2, using a 1/2” seam.**Before sewing in place, ensure that the hems on both panels align

9. Add the crotch seam by holding the panel joins in the centre of the pants, as shown below. Sew along edge 3, using a 1/2” seam.

10. Tidy all seams with a zigzag stitch.

11. Place the Ribbing against the raw, top edge of the pants, right sides together and attach with a 1/4" seam. Fold in half and attach to the inside of the pants, sewing over the existing stitching, Leaving a 2" gap.

12. Thread elastic through the gap and join ends with a zig zag stitch.

13. Sew a button hole below the gap, thread through drawstrings and stitch the gap closed. Tie the ends of the drawstrings in knots.

14. Cut out and attach each piece of the chose applique pattern to fusible webbing. The Reindeer applique pattern can be found here.

15. Following the instructions provided with your fusible webbing, attach to desired fabric and then onto the pyjama shirt.
**I decided to purchase our pyjamas tops from Kmart (you can’t beat $3!!)

16. Using a zigzag stitch, set to a small width and tight tension, sew around the edge of each piece of applique.
**I used co-ordinating thread but contrasting thread would also look good!

Now the whole family is set!!
