Can you believe that Christmas is only 9 weeks away!! Where has the year gone? This Christmas is an extra special one for our household as it will be Samuels first Christmas! This doesn't mean that I (oops, I mean Santa) will be going overboard with presents but it does mean that I get to go into sewing overload to make sure my little man has plenty of Christmas knick-knacks. Luckily, for you, that also means Christmas tutorials galore! Over the next couple of weeks, I'll share with you tutorials and patterns for matching family Christmas pyjamas, Christmas stockings, Christmas Sacks, a Christmas Bunting, baby's Christmas Day outfit and if we have time, I might throw in a Christmas Apron and Table Runner. So many things to make!!
To kick us off today, we will be making the Men's Christmas pyjamas, from our matching Christmas set. I've drawn up a pattern for both the pyjamas and applique (sizes men's large and small plus kids 00).

2. Fold your chosen fabric in half lengthwise. Place Panel A
from the template along the fold line, where indicated. Pin to the fabric and
cut.
3. Repeat with the fabric chosen for the lining.
4. Place one piece of lining against the wrong side of one
piece of Panel A’s fabric and pin together. Repeat for the other piece of
lining and Panel A.
5. Cut two 2" strips from your contrasting fabric (the length of these strips depends on which size pattern you are using. They need to be as long as the bottom of the pants. Don't worry if they are longer as you can just cut the excess once you've attached it).
6. Place the strip against the bottom edge of Panel A, right sides together, pin (including the lining) and then sew together with a 1/4" seam. Fold the exposed edge over by 1/4" and iron flat. Then fold the entire strip in half, so that the edge you just ironed just covers the seam you made and pin. Sew in place, resewing in the seam.

7. Join the panels by placing them, right sides together,
and sewing along edge 1 and 2, using a 1/2” seam.
**Before sewing in place, ensure that the hems on both
panels align.
8. Add the crotch seam by holding the panel joins in the
centre of the pants, as shown below. Sew along edge 3, using a 1/2” seam.
9. Tidy all seams with a zigzag stitch.
10. Create a pocket for the elastic in the top seam of the
pants by folding the upper edge down 1/4”, ironing flat, folding another 1 ½”
and stitch in place along the lower edge of the fold, leaving a 2” gap.
11. Insert the elastic into the gap and cut the length to the desired tension. Join the elastic with a
zigzag stitch and sew the remainder of the hem closed.
12. Cut out and attach each piece of the chose applique pattern to
fusible webbing. The Santa applique pattern can be found here.
13. Following the instructions provided with your fusible
webbing, attach to desired fabric and then onto the pyjama shirt.
**I decided to purchase our pyjamas tops from Kmart (you can’t
beat $3!!)
14. Using a zigzag stitch, set to a small width and tight
tension, sew around the edge of each piece of applique.
**I used co-ordinating thread but contrasting thread would
also look good!
