Muslin Wrap Tutorial

Today we are going to make another simple item, that I am told I will make great use of....the Muslin Wrap. There is such a wide variety of coordinating muslin fabrics available and at such great prices (I got mine from spotlight at $3.00/m). Muslin wraps are quick and simple to make and are a beautiful gift for a mother-to-be!

Baby muslin is the fabric I have used. It is light weight and 100% cotton, so it's breathable and very soft....perfect for baby! The beauty about making your own wraps, is that you can make them bigger than store bought wraps (great for those with wriggly babies!). Today's tutorial will give you two finishing options - plain muslin wrap and muslin wrap with binding.

1. Cut a square from your fabric. Do this buy trimming the selvedges, measuring the width of the fabric and cutting a square to this size. I have used a 46" square.

2. Fold and pin the edges. Fold over approximately 1/4" of fabric along each edge, iron and pin.

3. Fold over another 1/4" of fabric and pin. This ensures that no raw edges are exposed.

4. Hem the edges. This can sometimes be difficult with such a soft fabric. If it does get stuck in the feed dogs, simply hold the tails of the bobbin thread taught behind the presser foot while it gets started.

**Tip - to do the corners; lift the presser foot and pivot the fabric (don't lift the needle), lower the foot and continue.

5. Iron flat.

Wasn't that easy!! So quick and practical as well. Simply wrap three coordinating wraps with a ribbon and you have a gorgeous gift. If you are after a different finish on the wrap, try binding it with a coordinating binding. The process is a little different.

2. Round the edges using a cup, bowl or something similar.
